A Raw Story about Mental Health & Spiritual Healing

I have a story to tell you:

Once upon a time, there was a bright young girl of Cantonese descent who had so much love and compassion to share with the world. She loved her parents very much and strived to please them and make them the happiest parents alive. She took pride in obediently obeying her parents’ wishes and dreams for her. On weekdays, she starves for hours in the afternoon so that she could eat with them when they come home.  On weekends, she waits for them to come home late at night after golfing for the whole day.  She sits prim and proper at the dinner table, smiling and nodding to every instruction her parents make.

Every day she worked hard at school, comprising her joy and her dreams of creating harmony through singing, of creating beauty through drawing, of sharing love and joy, so that she could make her parents happy. She was taught to live up to what society said would reward her in the long term. So she studied relentlessly to get into the most academically renowned schools, sacrificing her passions and shelving her creativity. She was taught it was all worth it even if that meant crying herself to sleep every night and burying her anger. She concealed every emotion that revealed her to be seen as vulnerable.

One dayshe had a serious breakdown and was diagnosed with clinical depression.

Because of that, she had to finally face her emotions. She had to confront her truth and save herself so that she can get out of bed every day. She sought clinical help and started taking anti-depressants.

Because of that, she committed to healing depression. After 1.5 years of taking anti-depressants, she felt better but vowed to do everything in her power to never return to this state again. She decides to devote her life to healing and started to really hear the whispers of her soul. It is time to heal the voids she had been running away from all her life. She begins her journey of spiritual awakening by taking devotion seriously, and opening up to connect with her inner self.

Until finally she learns to love herself seriously and put herself and her dreams first. She decides to inspire and bring healing to others. She dived into various healing modalities and becomes intimately attuned to her divine self. She defies the conventions of society and starts a business to share the lessons on spiritual and personal growth that she learned, to encourage others to be who they truly are by fulfilling their potential and stepping fully into their true selves. While the path of spiritual entrepreneurship isn’t easy, she has a purpose to rise from her bed every single morning. She leads by bridging humanity with the divine and is living proof that finding spirit is the key to self-love, authenticity, bravery, and success.

This is my story.

If this resonated with you on any level, I hope you know that healing is the way, and is so possible.

This is my path and how I found a way out of the darkness.

And while I wholeheartedly believe in spirit, I would never negate the power of clinical help.

Balance is necessary.

My disclaimer is that I am not a medical doctor, please seek medical help if you need it. I pray that you’re able to find your light and to share with you that sometimes that healing might not always be a linear path. There are ebbs and flows, just as nature cycles through the seasons.

Thank you so much for reading my story. I hope that sharing my story continually removes the stigmas that linger around mental health, and lets you know you are not alone.

You are seen, and you are loved.

Sending you so much love, Yinki
